What is dédédé?

dédédé is an online platform that invites citizens to share, discuss, and reflect on the various Eedé, Akandé, and Nandé* of urban spaces.

*Good, Bad, and Why in Kansai dialect.

The platform is being developed by a small team in Kyoto, Japan, with the goal of creating a global forum that fosters public interest in urban design.

How to Use

Important: Before using dédédé, please first read our Terms of Service. Do not use the website if you do not agree to the terms. dédédé is a free service, and there are no fees associated with using the website.

To gain full access to the functionalities of dédédé, you will need to create an account. To do this, please click on the "Sign Up" button at the top right corner and follow the instructions. Note that there is no need to sign up if you merely wish to view the site's contents.

To upload a new "dédédé" to the platform, click on the "Post dédédé" button at the top right corner of the home page (the button is only visible when you are logged in). A submission form will appear, which will ask for a title, images, description, and a handful of other information. Once you click "Post" at the bottom of the form, congratulations! Your dédédé has now been shared with the entire world.

A lot of things in cities do not translate well to photographs. Thus, attaching images is optional — posts can consist solely of text descriptions. Short audio clips can be attached to posts as well.

A dédédé can optionally be included in any of three "collections": Good, Bad, and Why. (A single post can be included in more than one collection.) You can also create new collections with original names, for example "Sustainable", "Nostalgic", etc. A meticulously curated dédédé collection is a great way to show off your unique perspective on cities.

Although not mandatory, adding location data (latitude, longitude) to posts is encouraged. You can also add tags, which will make it easier for other users to find your post on the site. In addition to the 18 default tags, you can define new tags such as "Modern Architecture", "Tactical Urbanism", etc.

You can add comments to other users' posts, and/or repost them along with your own original takes. (Note that when a user deletes a post, any associated comments or reposts will be deleted as well.) You can also choose to follow users. The home page can be configured to either show posts from all users, or only show posts from users that you are currently following.

Clicking on the round button at the bottom left corner of the home page will open the interactive map. Posts with location data are displayed on this map. Please note that, as there is a limit to the number of posts that can be shown on the map at the same time, and posts are (by default) shown in reverse chronological order, older posts may be hidden in areas with many posts.

Rules

dédédé is a platform about public spaces — please only post about things and phenomena that you observed in publicly-owned open spaces (such as parks and streets), or in private spaces that are nevertheless easily accessible by the general public (such as train stations and shopping malls).

Posts that defame, harass, or infringe on the privacy of others are prohibited, as are posts leading to discrimination based on race, nationality, religion, etc., or posts depicting or inciting any form of violence. NSFW (not safe for work) material and spam/advertising are prohibited as well. Also, at present we do not allow posting of AI-generated content, although this policy may be revised in the future.

Please be wary of copyright. As a general rule, please only upload content (text, image, audio, etc.) that you yourself have created. Copyrights for all content uploaded to dédédé belong to the original rights holders.

If you find any posts, comments, etc. that violate our rules, please make use of the reporting functions to kindly let us know.

Please also review our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Violations of the rules may lead to accounts being suspended or terminated.
